PEACESAT is committed to lessening the digital divide
in the Pacific Islands and continues the long established efforts in developing
and maintaining partnerships. PEACESAT cannot achieve its missions alone
and has established extensive relationships with many public, private,
local, federal, and regional organizations.
PEACESAT assists Pacific Basin communities, within
resource constraints, to plan and develop local program and technology
infrastructure that take advantage of grant programs and incorporate self-sustainability
and education and training in telecommunication policy, technology and
applications.
The PEACESAT network provides limited bandwidth capacity,
however as other opportunities arise and Pacific Island entities migrate
to commercial or other public service connections, the limited PEACESAT
satellite capacity will be made available to the underserved and the very
remote areas where telephone capacity may not be available.
PEACESAT continues to promote Pacific Island initiatives
in national and international arenas with an objective of elevating recognition
of the unique challenge of the region.
PEACESAT pursues its mission to improve telecommunications
in the Pacific Island regions through research and projects which are
funded by government agencies, private foundations, and partners. Our
project work is based on research and considerable experiences. The work
of one project frequently informs and builds on the work of others to
form clusters of interrelated projects.
