As one of Japan’s four connections to the Abilene network the Asia-Pacific Advanced Network (APAN) is a non-profit international consortium concerned with the international collaboration of the Asia-Pacific region for the advancement of networking applications.

When fully implemented, a 155Mbps link between the University of Hawaii and APAN-Tokyo site in Ohtemachi, Tokyo will provide PEACESAT a means to connect with sites in the APAN network including Europe, Korea, Hong Kong, Thailand, Vietnam, Phillippines, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Singapore, and Australia. This connection will provide a significant upgrade between PEACESAT and the National Institute of Multimedia Education (NIME) in Chiba, Japan. NIME is an institute that promotes multimedia for use in higher education institutions.
